Speakeasies & Scarlet Ladies: Prostitution and Prohibition in the North Country

Step back in time into a world of bootleggers, secret passwords, and local scandal. On Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 1:00 PM, the museum will host "Speakeasies & Scarlet Ladies: Prostitution and Prohibition in the North Country," an immersive afternoon of history and interactive entertainment.

The event features a keynote presentation by St. Lawrence County Legislator and noted local author Jim Reagen, who will explore the hidden history of the Prohibition era and vice operations in the North Country region. Following his presentation, Reagen will be available to sign copies of his books.

Recreating the thrill of an illicit 1920s haunt, a door bouncer will admit only those savvy enough to whisper the secret password—the city’s famed bootlegging nickname.

Inside, archival photo collections will be projected with a Prohibition Mocktail Bar.
