About the event
March is Women’s History Month, and the Ogdensburg History Museum is proud to honor the contributions of women during the American Revolution. As part of their celebration, the museum will be holding a special children’s program on Saturday, March 14th at 11:30 am.
The program will feature the stories of three remarkable women who took on vastly different roles during the conflict:
Molly Pitcher (Mary Ludwig Hays): Famous for her bravery at the Battle of Monmouth, she initially served as a "camp follower," bringing water to thirsty soldiers and to cool the cannons. When her husband collapsed during the heat of battle, she reportedly took his place at the cannon and continued to fire on the British.
Deborah Sampson: A pioneer who broke gender barriers by disguising herself as a man named "Robert Shurtliff" to enlist in the Fourth Massachusetts Regiment. She served for 17 months, even scouting neutral territory…
