The forgotten stories of the Old Burying Place in Heuvelton, NY will be brought to light in a special presentation by Timothy J. Abel, PhD on September 14th at 12pm. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the Ogdensburg History Museum, 206 Ford St in Ogdensburg.
Dr. Abel, an adjunct professor of anthropology at SUNY Canton and senior archaeologist at Timothy J. Abel, PhD has completed over 300 successful archaeology projects throughout upstate New York. His presentation, titled "Forgotten and Found: Stories from the Old Burying Place in Heuvelton, NY," will delve into the history and discoveries of the Old Heuvelton Burying Ground.
The cemetery, which was given to the village in 1840 by the Averell family, was deemed unfit for further interment in 1870. Families were asked to relocate their loved ones to the newly consecrated Hillcrest Cemetery. However, not all graves…
